Chances are good that you think of yourself as a pet owner. Think again! You're actually in a relationship with a sentient being of a different species. And even if they do lick themselves in places you can't they're just as smart as you - probably more - when it comes to managing your relationship with them. Most humans have a really unique way of distancing ourselves from our role in what causes speed bumps in relationships. Definitely with other humans - does the blame game come to mind - and most especially with our animal companions.
